This post is all about religion.

I have been struggling in Christianity as of late.
I think it is my philosophy course that is causing this huge crack in my faith right now.
Perhaps as well as the many worldly characteristics of being in college.
Wants and desires are easy to fulfill and religion is easy to question.

I feel as if I have lost a basis of my religion.
I don’t know how this has happened.
But I feel it can be found again in Proverbs.
If nothing else (and I say this very loosely, don’t take me to be flippant about my faith) Christianity has a huge wisdom component to it that I love.
And I think this is where I was putting a lot of time and effort.
Which doesn’t quite make it–based on what Christianity is about.
Because when you say you are a Christian, you follow Christ.
My base was from a wisdom aspect.
When philosophy attacks Jesus, I coud purport to support my faith.
I was uninformed and incapable of acting because I had very little grace in this way of believing.
Which I impart, makes me wrong.

So it’s time to fix that.
Or give it up.
But I’m casting my lines to fix my viewpoints and then my actions.
Because that is what I feel is right.

Tonight I am thinking on Proverbs 18:1.

The one who lives alone is self-indulgent, showing contempt for all who have sound judgement.

I have an individualistic nature.
That is for sure.

COMMENTS / ONE COMMENT

Hi Seth,

I came across your blog through a Google alert I set up. Your comment about your faith and your philosophy class reminded me of my undergrad days taking Philosophy 101. My Christian faith was challenged too, but fortunately I had some good books to consult by Christian philosophers who pointed out the weaknesses in a lot of what my professor was promulgating. He was an open atheist and attacked theistic belief whenever he got a chance.

All that to say, there are good resources out there that provide rational reasons to believe in Christianity and point out the shortcomings in atheistic approaches. If you haven’t read the latest edition of William Lane Craig’s Reasonable Faith, I highly recommend that book.

And, as you probably know, it’s always helpful to be an active member of a Christian community. When your faith is challenged, close Christian friends can often provide helpful encouragement.

Blessings,
Chris
