I can't say the conversation would be different with absolute certainty. However, I do feel environment of an Ivy League school would be different with a different level of student involvement and awareness. It is my opinion that the students at this college, and at most schools (I can have an opinion because I have attended three) are not in school to be educated for the love of knowledge. They are attending university to acquire a degree and a pay raise.

I have also understood for some time now, that I need to take my education into my own hands. I do supplement my education by reading and attending events like TEDxMidAtlantic and BarCamps to learn and grow.

I also hold to the idea that with Ivy League comes better networking opportunities.

I wanted to comment this statement: "I am entirely jealous of students at Cornell University (it sits across the hill from me) and any Ivy League school, and am wondering why I didn't apply to at least one Ivy."

Do you honestly think that if you were over at Cornell, the conversation you had with your friend in the food court would have happened differently? You say you hardly feel educated here at all. Who is really to blame for that? I mean, sure, you can blame the institution. You can argue your professors aren't really challenging you enough, sure, but is that really all there is to it? You only get what you put into getting an education. You can't just sit back and wait for someone to challenge you intellectually. How often do you go to a professor's office hours and chat with them about what you are discussing in class? Don't discount a professor based only on what you hear from them in class.

I think it's ignorant for you to think that going to an Ivy League school would have dramatically affected your education. And don't think that I think it wouldn't have any impact, I'm just saying that I feel that you can receive just as good of an education over here at Ithaca, that you can at any Ivy League.

I do have more that I'd like to comment on, but I'm in class right now, so I should probably get back to paying attention. ;)

Hi Seth,

I came across your blog through a Google alert I set up. Your comment about your faith and your philosophy class reminded me of my undergrad days taking Philosophy 101. My Christian faith was challenged too, but fortunately I had some good books to consult by Christian philosophers who pointed out the weaknesses in a lot of what my professor was promulgating. He was an open atheist and attacked theistic belief whenever he got a chance.

All that to say, there are good resources out there that provide rational reasons to believe in Christianity and point out the shortcomings in atheistic approaches. If you haven't read the latest edition of William Lane Craig's Reasonable Faith, I highly recommend that book.

And, as you probably know, it's always helpful to be an active member of a Christian community. When your faith is challenged, close Christian friends can often provide helpful encouragement.

Blessings,
Chris

Photograpy is your personal journal. it reflects who you are. No point in taking colorful and light shots that do not reflect what's inside. Those pictures would feel void. I don't think there's anything wrong with being who you currently are... yeah maybe it's differernt, but it's just a stage and everyone needs to go through stages. They add depth to our life.

I myself have been struggling with reflecting something I wish I wasn't because my heart is not how it should be.

PS. loved your blog! stumbled upon it and read through it... made me think of my own journey pursuing wisdom.

PS #2- Hope by now you made yourself a home.

actionchurch is definitely in need of innovative thinking, and people who communicate well. I know I personally suck at talking to people and encouraging community... We are currently in talks of starting a new marketing campaign. That seems right up your alley...

3. Whore yourself out ... best way I have found. Kidding ... sell your photos! http://istockphoto.com

Find the best sellers and take pictures of what they do! Or do weddings! Weddings are huge!

i think the verb is more appropriate. what job we occupy should not be the definition of who we are. the verb applies to you no matter what career you hold.
